Man, you already know it’s always a good time when we get blessed with something new from Vel The Wonder. And if you don’t know, well now you do. The charming artist couples sharp lyrics with soft, hypnotic vocals, floating over the accompanying production. Regardless of the subject matter, her prose is poignant, her flow is smooth and her unique style sets her in a lane of her own. There’s something so endearing about Vel, which only becomes more amplified when you sit with the dopeness that is her artistry.
After releasing Trophy Wife late last year, Vel comes through with the third set of visuals off the album, this time shining a light on “Fine Art.” As we’ve come to expect from Vel, “Fine Art” features the chillest of vibes. With Chase Moore handling the production, Vel dances in elegant fashion over the bop-laden, jazz-infused instrumentation with a punctual, choppy delivery that hits the listener close to the feels. It’s a wondrous example of storytelling, with our favorite protagonist detailing the emotional ride that comes with juggling professional aspirations with the push and pull of love. It’s safe to say you might relate to this one, and if you do it’ll pull on your heart strings as an ironic little smile creeps over your face.
Serving as a perfect visual backdrop to Vel’s wordplay, the Victor Hernandez-directed music video is as equally playful and immersed in love as the song itself. While we never see the muse who inspires the lyrical content, viewers witness the scenes play out from their POV. We get to experience what a day spent with Vel might be like if neither party was caught up in the allure of their careers.
Trophy Wife is available now on all your favorite streaming platforms. Treat yourself to some Vel The Wonder merch by heading to her official site.
