Tobe Nwigwe returns this week with another #theLIVEexperience, this time flipping the already booming “Jockin” into an even more explosive experience than the original record. Backed by the three piece band and LaNell Grant, who laced the OG track with its slick production, Nwigwe rips through his fiery prose as the live instrumentation stays knocking hard behind him. And, for those still fumbling with his name, Tobe makes very clear how to properly pronounce “Nwigwe.”
One of the most captivating aspects of these live flicks – and the #getTWISTEDsundays releases – is the absolute wholeness of the product being presented. From Nwigwe’s movement, mannerisms and gestures to the seemingly choreographed gesticulation of the band, all with matching uniforms, there is a complete absence of wasted space. Each moment, motion and change in cadence – both visual and auditory – is like a finely placed piece of the, in this case, “Jockin” puzzle. Of course, teamwork makes the dream work so daps, pounds and praise must be offered to Nate Edwards, who directed the video, and Jebediah, who shot and edited “Jockin.” There’s pristine timing on display as the camera captures every element of Tobe and the band, zooming in and fading back in order to accentuate the delivery of both the lyrical content and the instrumentation. In line with each weekly release, “Jockin” becomes a beautiful experience thanks to all the people who came together to bring the The Originals joint to life.
