Man, if you’re watching these live sessions and not proceeding to dig into whatever else the featured artists have to offer, then you wylin’. Obviously Tobe is, no pun intended, dope. But the way David Michael Wyatt and Luke Whitney have been absolutely lacing #theLIVEexperience with vocals each week has been on some otherworldly ish. Last week, Whitney got to shine so brightly on “Day Ones” and now Mr. David Michael Wyatt does the damn thing over and over and – let’s run it back one time – over on “I’m Dope.”
Got me out here writing out of pure excitement. Woo!
While Wyatt was featured on the LaNell Grant-produced OG version, he really gets the spotlight and front-of-the-stage prominence on the latest drop from Tobe. Team work is out here making the dream work, and once again everyone is coming together to bring the vision to life. These live cuts of The Originals/More Originals – fingers crossed, we get Three Originals live at some point – have taken already dope productions and flipped them into something new, while keeping the vintage energy of the original intact. No disrespect meant to anyone else out there making music, from my friends to the strangers I write about, but I don’t think there is anyone out right now making music, videos and art as captivating as Tobe, Nell, Fat and the rest of the family.
I’m taking a quick moment to throw this out into the Universe: I know every video comes with the #BUYMERCHNOTMUSIC tag, but I’m looking to cop an album featuring these live sessions.
The Extension Tour wraps up later this month in Houston, so if you’re able to catch one of the last few shows, do so. And, if not, peep what you’re missing via Tobe’s YouTube.
