Watch Now: Reggie Blu - Way Up [prod. nosalez]

I was introduced to the sonic offerings of Reggie Blu last year at the annual Hip-Hop for the Homeless event, enjoying the unique experience of having a live performance be the first time I heard his music. The music on display that evening was engaging, highlighting the personable and charismatic energy Reggie brings to the table. Since then, I’ve been looking forward to the first drop from Blu to hit the net so we could go ahead and share his art with the Hxppy Thxxghts audience.

Which brings us to “Way Up,” the latest release from the East Hartford-based artist.

Man, Reggie comes through in the visual with the same energy he brought to the HH4H show – it’s live, engaging and captivating. The song, which comes complete with uplifting, dream-like production from nosalez, features Blu delivering his sharp prose with an undeniably catchy flow. The slick storytelling present throughout this one couples nicely with the alluring hook, resulting in a record that shines from top to bottom. Blu exudes a sense of confidence that appears to stem not only from his openness to learn lessons along his journey, but the ability to actually put those lessons into practice as his life carries on.

“Way Up” is the epitome of an anthemic bop that’ll leave the listener feeling a newfound jolt of motivation and inspiration. This one is for the dreamers – the people who are willing to go against the grain to pursue the passions that make their hearts sing. And, like Blu does on “Way Up,” it’s OK to dap yourself up for making the moves you have made, even if the events of tomorrow remain unknown.

As noted, “Way Up” debuts alongside a smooth visual that comes courtesy of Brandon Morin. The video stands powerfully in its simplicity – no fancy effects or unnecessary flashing lights on this one. And that’s not to say special effects are a bad thing, but the “Way Up” visual comes to life with little more than the beautifully shot footage, allowing Blu’s content to remain the center of attention for the viewer.

“Way Up” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
