I don’t know, man. Everyone has their opinions and, like most things, music is totally subjective. But OnCue does not miss. There’s been growth and evolution and all that good stuff over the years – you might not get down to the older material as much as the newer material. Or maybe this new wave isn’t your vibe. Whatever your opinion may be, I stand firm in my own opinion that OnCue stays creating soundtracks for my life. By writing and creating from whatever his head and heartspace is at the time of creation, the music reeks of authenticity. And that makes it ridiculously easy to relate to. That, my dear friends, is a special skill that not everyone is able to tap – keeping it real, keeping it pure and keeping it authentic.
Which brings us to Cuey’s latest, “MUD.” If you’re still surprised that OnCue cooks up vibrant bops, then you haven’t been paying attention. Couple the vibes with the ways in which he weaves in lyrical content that contains raw emotion and depth and you’re left with beautiful music. I’m not sure how else to describe it – it’s just beautiful.
As 2020 kicks all of our asses, leaving us inspired to reach greater heights – personally and as a collective community – or leaving us ready to give up to the craziness (the choice is yours btw), “MUD” serves as middle finger/crotch grab to the trials of the times. Of course, it runs a little deeper than that, but that’s the energy on display here – nothing can and nothing will stop OnCue. This is the energy we would all benefit from embracing now and in the future. Life is inevitably going to knock you around. So, what are you going to do about it?
“MUD” features production from gla$s, d1sjointed and Brenton Duvall. The DIY-esque visual experience features shots that come courtesy of Chris Weigen.
“MUD” is available now on all your favorite streaming platforms. And the Hxppy Thxxghts Interview with OnCue is ready for your viewing pleasure whenever you decide to peep.
