We may be on the verge of fall, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep a little summertime vibe in rotation. With “Sue,” no suits come through with an eclectic jam, floating between a mellow groove and a vibrant display of musical eruption. The band’s tongue-in-cheek verses find solid ground between the waves of instrumentation, resulting in an engaging ode to beauty and thirst. “Sue” features a striking juxtaposition of humor-laden lyrics delivered with a steadfast seriousness – this display of prose couples with the knocking instruments, taking the audience on a multidimensional listening experience.
Directed by Brady Lawrence, the accompanying visual contains a shortened version of “Sue,” teasingly drawing the listener in and leaving them wanting more. We see no suits sitting poolside when, presumably, the songs muse enters the frame, quickly capturing the attention of our protagonists and the viewers alike. In a beautiful display of cinematic transition, Alexa Mey jumps into the pool and we’re left with no suits rocking out under water. It’s simple, fun and just as engaging as the record itself.
