I caught wind of LHiTNEY – or Luke Whitney – thanks to his offerings on Tobe Nwigwe joints. And, man, the Texas-based artist has some serious vocal chops. Hearing him dance sonically with Tobe on LaNell Grant’s production left me itching for more and, thankfully, I did not have to dig too deep to come across Stages.

The 4-track EP features a wondrous balance of soulful R&B and sophisticated pop infused with a light, southern twang. From start to finish, Stages is an easy listening experience, chalk full of vibrant energy and impassioned, emotive lyrical delivery. It’s a nice juxtaposition of vibes as the EP maneuvers through the lustful highs and turbulent lows of a relationship, with each track telling a piece of the story. As Luke rides the waves of instrumentation that comes courtesy of Lab OX and TrakkSounds, listeners are left feeling the peaks and plummet of the relationship that serves as his muse. You’ll feel Stages, relate to Stages and, undoubtedly, vibe to Stages.
