By the end of this month, Irie Lee will have liberated his new project, Cyan. According to Lee, the album will be an emotional one, intended to remind listeners that we are human. It doesn’t take long to dig through and sit with Lee’s previous work – and it will only take a few plays to grasp the unmatched ability of Irie Lee to tap into the humanness of all things. Yellow Forest is still, in my humble opinion, one of the best albums in recent memory that too many people have yet to experience. With a new album on the way, it would be an understatement to say I’m excited to sink into Lee’s forthcoming music. For new listeners, I highly recommend sitting with Yellow Forest and allowing the sonic waves to wash over your bodies – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
After sharing “Long Way Home” in May, Irie Lee continues the roll-out of Cyan with the delivery of the moving “Fleur De Lys,” which dropped alongside an accompanying visual treatment. Featuring his emotive, picturesque delivery, Lee floats over the light, atmospheric instrumentation, filling the sonic landscape with vibrantly pure prose. The record is a softly spoken contemplation, almost emerging as a soliloquy wrapped in subdued strings. When you press play on this one, allow yourself to slip into the vibrations and experience “Fleur De Lys” in all its ethereal glory.
Cyan drops on July 26th. Watch and stream “Fleur De Lys” below.
