After linking with Grynch and Fearce Vill last week, Grieves returns with his fourth new release in as many weeks, joining forces with Chris Webby on the clown targeting “Man Down”. Over the course of the sharp but fun record, the Rhymesayers-representative trades verses with the CT-bred emcee, taking turns standing prominently in their strength and conviction as true students of the game. Both artists lace the wildly simplistic yet impactful production with poignant quips and a collection of blunt and layered wordplay. The fact Grieves and Webby can step up with the bars should come as no surprise to anyone who listens to either artist. And, if you follow Webby at all, you know he’s rather outspoken when it comes to the rise of certain less-than-lyrical individuals in today’s musical landscape.
The “Man Down” lyric video comes complete with slick and twisted, carnival-themed animation courtesy of ProbCause and Elijah Alvarado. Popping from the screen thanks the the vibrant imagery, the colorful visual accompaniment to “Man Down” serves as a nice juxtaposition to the abrasive content Grieves and Webby kick on the new drop.
Four releases in four weeks? Man, it has to be album time for Grieves.
“Man Down” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
