Vevo DSCVR comes through once again with a lovely set of visuals showcasing an artist we should all be paying a little more attention to, this time highlighting Jackson, Mississippi-bred Dear Silas. While previous drops from the DSCVR channel have featured artists performing alongside a live band, Dear Silas takes on the dual performance videos all by his lonesome and, quite frankly, he steps up with enough energy to leave you feeling like he had an entire orchestra behind him acting as hype wo/men.
As he tears through two joints that live on his 2018 release, The Last Cherry Blossom, viewers are on the receiving end of Dear Silas’ quick wit, silky delivery and his tongue-in-cheek lyricism that’s balanced wondrously with an aura of authenticity. There’s certainly plenty of braggadocio present in his prose, the confident demeanor radiating from the artist throughout “Skrr Skrr” and “Under My Feet.” Silas, who is officially linked with RCA Records, displays the vastness of his artistry on “Skrr Skrr” when he puts down the mic and picks up a trumpet, filling the room with seamless instrumentation as the sonic foundation of the cut filters in subtly from off-screen.
It’s a fun viewing experience, accentuated by the fact that both “Skrr Skrr” and “Under My Feet” are already infectious and unique tracks in their own right. With Dear Silas’ live Vevo performance, the records come to life with an even greater level of energy and expression.
The Last Cherry Blossom is available now on all major streaming platforms.
