After taking a couple weeks off, Chris Webby returns to his regularly scheduled program with the release of “Paid,” the latest in the ongoing #WebbyWednesday series. The new joint features a straight-forward delivery from the CT-bred emcee, who kicks his prose with a simultaneously laid back yet impassioned flow. “Paid” emits some real vintage Webby energy, working to couple a sense of nostalgia while still highlighting the artistic and personal growth that has encompassed Web’s career.
Infused with the subdued knock of JP On Da Track’s production, which adds an engaging, bouncing vibe to “Paid” without being overbearing, the new track shines light on Webby’s rags to “riches” story. If you’ve been following dude for a while, you already know some of the details: he’s worked his way from debt and illicit activities to literally making a comfortable living off his passion and dreams. With “Paid,” Webby makes sure to document the destruction from which the beauty of his present life arose, never forgetting what and where he came from or went through to reach this point.
Perhaps most admirable, thanks in no small part to the growth, maturation and experience of his lengthy career, Webby is focused and mindful enough to not spend his money simply for the sake of spending. A younger Webby bringing in the kind of cash he is may have been a recipe for disaster, but with a solid foundation and a (somewhat) level headspace, Chris Webby is ready for the money.
“Paid” is available now on all your favorite streaming platforms. Enjoy the latest #WebbyWednesday release below.
